First off, shorter is better.

But, more importantly, while the convention with provincial codes is a "good idea", most "normal" people never really got it.

Think of "toronto.on.ca" vs. "toronton.ca" - the average Canadian consumer might not realize there's any difference.

In my business, I have seen more "*bc.ca" domains registered in the last year than *.bc.ca". I would say both are bad, but it's all a matter of consumer understanding and usability.

All of this being said, I am still the proud owner of "holmes.bc.ca", and will probably never own "holmes.ca" (the owner, who was kind enough to allow me to register holmes.bc.ca, just renewed it for 10 years recently), so I will hold on to holmes.bc.ca. Of course, I use paulholmes.ca as my website (for all the reasons above).

I'm curious, why do you think that the provincial subdomain is "passé"?

It's unfortunate that many municipalities have abandoned the convention of something like city.toronto.on.ca in favour of toronto.ca -- while it's easier to type, it makes for far more ambiguity. Where's midland.ca for example? http://maps.google.com/maps?q=midland%2C+canada

This would imply somebody has the job of doing this. As with most organizations of it's size, there is probably nobody responsible for this ... or coordinating social media efforts, marketing, branding, etc. Oh heck, don't get me started.

The BC Liberal Party - BCLIBERALS.COM - plural (wrong) and .COM (dead wrong). Next election, they should change this.

bcliberal.ca was registered to 0756822 B.C. LTD. It expired 2009/04/25, which is probably why its current status is SUSPD.

The BC Liberals had better jump on this before someone else registers it. It would be a real shame if someone else scooped it up and used it to host a site critical of the party ;)
